June is Pride Month - a month dedicated to celebrating LGBT+ communities all around the world

Pride is all about being proud of who you are no matter who you love.

Pride is a celebration of people coming together in love and friendship, to show how far LGBT+ rights have come, and how in some places there's still work to be done. LGBT+ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender, the + is an inclusive symbol to mean 'and others' to include people of all identities.

Pride month is about acceptance, equality, celebrating the work of LGBT+ people, education in LGBT+ history and raising awareness of issues affecting the LGBT+ community.

Pride month is also a time for people to remember how damaging homophobia was, and still can be.

The Rainbow Pride Flag was originally created by artist Gilbert Baker in 1978 to reflect both the diversity and the unity of the LGBT+ community.

Recently the flag has been updated to include the trans community and LGBT+ people from ethnic minorities who are often the most discriminated against and is now known as the Progress Pride Flag.
