Kent Police Update - December 2021

As Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs), it is always nice to be asked to contribute to the Ramsgate Town Council CommunityAd Magazine. Our role is to be highly visible in the community and to write an article is a great way of getting ourselves heard.

Many of you I hope will have seen us walking around Ramsgate, from the town centre to the village of Cliffsend and beyond. We have been lucky enough this year to start to get back to a slightly normal life again after COVID, getting involved with events such as the Ramsgate Carnival, The Royal Harbour 200 celebrations, the British Freestyle Kitesurfing Championships and, of course, the South and Southeast in Bloom Competition, something I am very passionate about. We have received the results from the competition and they are as follows:

I would like to thank everyone who was involved again this year: Ramsgate Town Councillors, volunteers, Ramsgate Town Council Technicians and many more. This event has grown in strength, excuse the pun, over the last two years with eight entries in 2021 compared with just the one in 2020.

Ramsgate is certainly Blooming in more ways than one: the Cavendish Street housing development is coming along and people are moving in, which is great for the town in general. As is the Blueberry Homes development at Ramsgate Main Sands, which will improve the beauty of the area and mean no more blue hoardings. Hooray!

PCSO Greenleaf received a Divisional Commander’s Certificate of Merit in August. PCSO Greenleaf identified and worked closely with Thanet District Council’s RISE project for the homeless people. He arranged for a group of keen knitters to get together and who kindly knitted woolly hats for Thanet’s homeless. The group knitted over 70 hats which were distributed to homeless people via the RISE team and the Salvation Army. PCSO Greenleaf would like to thank all those who knitted the hats and provided the wool. This was just a small example of the work PCSOs do within their communities to help the most vulnerable and to bring communities together. Well done PCSO Greenleaf from us all at Ramsgate Police Station!

PCSO Rougvie and I (PCSO Litchfield) are still covering Cliffsend, Nethercourt, and Pegwell Wards. We are on different shifts meaning that there should be one of us out and about on most days.
PCSO Smith covers the Newington and Northwood Wards.
PCSO Greenleaf and PCSO Steadman cover the Eastcliff and Sir Moses Montefiore Wards.
PC Hills is still Ramsgate’s Town Beat officer.

Thanet Community Safety Partnership has started the Neighbourhood Engagement Meetings up again and all are welcome to attend. Please look out for upcoming dates via their Facebook page or via their website www.thanetcommunitysafety.org.uk.

PCSO Rougvie and I have started up our Ward surgeries again. Please look out for upcoming dates on posters around town and on social media.

Ramsgate Police Station is open Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm. When the station is closed, there is a yellow phone outside the front entrance that can be used, free of charge, to report any issues.

Incidents can be reported by calling 101 or online via the Kent Police website. If you see any crimes in progress, please call 999.
