Royal Victoria Pavilion could become Britain's Biggest Pub

Thanet District Council are in talks with Wetherspoons to turn Ramsgate's Royal Victoria Pavilion into what could become Britain’s biggest pub.

The council have spoken to the pub chain about becoming tenants at the Pavilion, which has been empty since 2008.

If a deal is agreed, the building could be transformed into Britain’s largest pub, dwarfing current record holder The Moon Under Water in Deansgate, Manchester.

The ground floor of the Pavilion measures 18,720 square feet, over twice the 8,800 square feet The Moon Under Water boasts.

Council cabinet member for financial services Rick Everitt said: “It will cost millions to bring the building back into use. The council doesn’t have the money so if there is someone else who is willing to invest then we have to listen.

“Wetherspoons have got a track record of restoring old buildings- it could be a game changer. I think it has the potential to be a massive positive for Ramsgate.”

If they become tenants, Wetherspoons could let a portion of the property for use by community projects.
