In 2018, local artist, acclaimed sculptor and musician Dominic Grant began an incredible life-size sculpture of George IV to celebrate the 200th Royal Anniversary of Ramsgate Harbour, the only Royal Harbour in the United Kingdom. Dominic donated his time creating this magnificent statue as a labour of love, for the town he grew to love, which will overlook the harbour to be enjoyed for generations to come.

Dominic was in the 70’s pop group ‘Guys N Dolls’ where he met his wife, Julie. When the group finished in 1985 Dominic and Julie continued singing as a Country duo, ‘Grant and Forsyth’, mainly recording and performing in the Benelux countries where they sold over 4 million Albums.

In 2008, they moved to Ramsgate and fell in love with the place. Dominic had been Sculpting for 20 years in between Theatre Tours & had become a well-respected and prolific Sculptor. He has statues placed in prominent parts of Amsterdam, London and Canterbury.

He loved History, so embarking on a larger-than-life Statue of King George IV was something he really wanted to do for the Town of Ramsgate.

Tragically Dominic passed away suddenly in November 2020, leaving Julie, his Son Luke and Daughter Sophia devastated. But knowing his love of his art and his passion for this statue, his family have continued to realise his dream and are currently raising funds so it can be Bronzed. Sadly, it won’t be ready in time for this year’s events but will be for next year.

Actress and resident of Ramsgate, Brenda Blethyn, has pledged a generous donation and her support to ensure her love of Dominic’s work and her hometown has the recognition it deserves.

Julie said "We could not have been prouder of Dominic as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. His art and music will live on forever and his immense talent as a sculptor and singer will leave a lifetime legacy to us and the people of Ramsgate. We’d like to thank everyone who has donated so far, people have been so kind and supportive, they loved Dominic. His Statue is truly magnificent, so please take some time to visit our site and donate whatever you possibly can, thank you"
