It has been a long winter, and now Spring is on the way, buds are beginning to open, the days are getting longer and the weather getting warmer.
The outdoors is one place where we can enjoy exercise and fill our lungs with fresh air, something that we’ve been encouraged to do throughout the pandemic.
And now that the weather is working in our favour, it is the perfect time to re-connect with the outdoors and enjoy the joys of Spring.
Active Ramsgate, an award-winning initiative of Ramsgate Town Council which encourages economic growth in the town by promoting outdoor activities, has a number of walking trails designed for residents and visitors to enjoy the best of the surrounding area.
One such route is The Contra Trail. Named because of the number of contradictions along the route. Steeped in history and nature, it’s a route just over six miles which begins at the Royal Harbour (with a common touch), and along the route features an English monument to a Viking invasion, and a nature reserve with wetland birds that will make your heart sing.
It truly is one of the most beautiful walks in the region. Whatever you thought you knew about the area may be blown out of the water after a trek along this route.
