As we head towards the end of winter, and begin to look forward to spring, we at Active Ramsgate are focusing on cycling and scuba diving. These are just two of our Active8 activities we promote as part of our offering to make Ramsgate a top active destination to visit. For more information on these activities, as well as benefitting from discounts for each one, visit

So what’s the big deal about cycling?
Ramsgate is in the enviable position of being on one of Kent’s most popular cycle routes, the 32-mile Viking Coastal Trail.
Ramsgate was the first place in Kent to be designated as a Walkers and Cyclists Welcome destination, so visitors can be reassured there are plenty of places to lock up bikes, clean and get them serviced (or even hire if you don’t have one) and use it as a base to explore the area on two wheels.
There are on and off-road trails, countryside, cliff-tops and sea views as well as a huge variety of cafes, bars and restaurants to recuperate and fill up before heading on your way again.
For more information on the Viking Coast Trail, visit

For our recommendation on where to hire cycles and helmets, our very own Harbour Bikes based in the Arches will help you out,

And scuba diving?
The coast around Ramsgate has approximately 2000 shipwrecks scattered about, which makes it one of the most exciting places in the UK to dive.
Have you ever wondered what’s down there but never realised that you could learn to scuba dive right here in Kent? Well, we are excited to tell you that you can receive full training on the Kent/Thanet coast!
Scuba diving courses are run at Thanet Diving and Watersports. All equipment is provided, so you just need to book, and turn up! For more information, visit
www.kentscubadiving.co.uk or call 07981 551922.
Now’s the time to get learning to scuba dive, and who knows what you may discover down in the dark depths of Ramsgate’s coastal waters as a result!
If you have tried it before, then there are plenty of options available for divers of all ages and abilities.
Don’t let the weather put you off, there is so much to do to get out and about and enjoy the beautiful countryside and coastline that our town has to offer.
