Active Ramsgate Scoops Gold!

A Ramsgate Town Council initiative, Active Ramsgate, has beaten stiff competition to win the Community Care Award at the Kent Health and Beauty Awards.

The initiative is designed to support economic regeneration by promoting the Ramsgate area through its outdoor activities, and it was praised by a panel of judges for its impact on the local community. 

Active Ramsgate was launched in June 2013, and in that time has introduced various activities into the area such as new guided walks and guided canoe trails, as well as promoting the area as a leading kitesurfing and pickleball destination.

As a result, the town has benefitted from a significant increase in tourists which has led to regeneration of the whole area and bringing together local communities and businesses.

Project Manager, Dr Cheryl Mvula MBE said of the award win: “We’re absolutely delighted to have been recognised for our hard work and efforts in achieving great things for the Active Ramsgate initiative. The whole team is really passionate about making Ramsgate a destination for families and individuals to visit and enjoy the fantastic scenery and keep fit and healthy at the same time.” 

Hilary Steel, organiser of the Kent Health and Beauty Awards said: “Active Ramsgate was awarded GOLD in the Community Care Award for its outstanding achievement and effect its initiatives have had on the local community. The team was able to demonstrate how its activities directly improved the local community in terms of regeneration and bringing local businesses together for the benefit of the whole area. The competition was fierce, but Active Ramsgate stood out from the rest, and absolutely should be rewarded for its efforts. Well done Active Ramsgate!”
