Ramsgate and Thanet lining up for a Rev-Up

Thanet is gearing up for the “Ramsgate Rev-Up” to be held on Sunday 14 August 2016 at the Western Undercliff (Royal Harbour Approach), Ramsgate. The Rev-Up follows on from the successful 2015 Ramsgate Sprint Revival in preserving the date and venue for vintage and classic motorcycles in Ramsgate.

There will be bikes on display from the birth of motorcycling through to the most up to date machines on the planet. Thanks to the support of Ramsgate Town Council and local businesses Ramsgate will host many famous bikes including World Champion and racing legend Barry Sheene’s bikes. A spokesman for the organisers said “Barry’s legendary 1976 and 1977 world championship-winning race bikes are on a rare tour of the UK to celebrate the 40th anniversary of his first world title. The Ramsgate Rev-Up is the only event where visitors will be able to see them free of charge. We’re also hoping to have one of the current world championship contender Valentino Rossi’s bikes along with many of the famous Ramsgate Sprint bikes form the 1950s and 60s.

A special feature of the event will be an engine start up area where visitors will experience a rare opportunity to hear the sounds of motorcycling through the decades.

Organisers of the 2015 Ramsgate Sprint Revival and 2016 Rev-Up are already planning a return of the Sprint in 2017. A spokesman for the organisers said “Due to operational reasons Thanet District Council were unable to guarantee the venue in time for a 2016 Sprint but work is already going on behind the scenes for 2017, which we hope to confirm at the Rev-Up.

Ramsgate Rev-Up is a free event and will be held on Sunday 14 August 2016 on Royal Harbour Approach (A299) Ramsgate from 10.00am.
