Another fantastic year for Ramsgate!
Ramsgate has achieved so much in 2015; the Town website reached 500,000 visits, Property Detective recognised Ramsgate as a Top Tweeter in East Kent and 9 Editions of the Ramsgate CommunityAd Web-Ltd Magazine have been created.
The Town was voted the UK's Most Lovable Medium Sized Town 2015, Flavours By Kumar won the Tiffin Cup and gained the title of The Best South Asian Restaurant in the UK 2015, Ramsgate Music Hall won Britain's Best Small Venue 2015. Chatham & Clarendon Grammar School broke a World Record for World’s Largest Mobile Phone Gaming Event.
The Heritage Lottery Fund granted £800,000 to Pugin's Church and Shrine of St Augustine, Ramsgate to create an Education, Research and Visitor Centre. Ramsgate was awarded £50,000 from the Government’s Coastal Revival Fund.
A large amount of events have happened in Ramsgate this year; the Ramsgate Carnival, Lark in the Park, Carols by Candlelight, the Ellington Park Events, Ramsgate Sprint Revival, 15 - 16 August 2015, Ramsgate Festival, Ramsgate Week, Addington Street Fayre, Ramsgate - Vikings Model Boat Club, 75th Anniversary of Battle of Britain, Ramsgate Seaside Shuffle Jazz Festival, The Alfie Gough Trust Teddy Bear's Picnic, Miss Ramsgate Selection and Dance, all of which have been funded or partial funded by the Town Council.
Some special anniversaries have happened this year; 75th Anniversary of Operation Dynamo, 200th Anniversary of Battle of Waterloo and 60th Anniversary of Queens Reign.
Several community groups have been recognised at the Thanet Sports Awards 2015; Leszek Grela, Ramsgate Olympic Taekwondo Club won Highly Commended as Coach of the Year and Alfie's Striders won Commended Club of the Year.
The Mayor of Ramsgate along with the Mayor’s Charity Committee, have so far raised just over £3,000 for two local charities; Ramsgate Sea Scouts and The hornets boxing club, with 4 months left in office as Mayor. The Mayor also held a volunteers welcome day, where volunteers were praised for their help within Ramsgate, another is being planned to commence in the New Year. The Mayor visited Conflans-Sainte-Honorine and Chimay, Belgium, along with the Ramsgate Twinning Association.
The Harbour lights have become a major attraction for the town at this time of year, attracting the BBC South East Today and not forgetting the Christmas Light Switch On which was also successful.
Ramsgate has lots to look forward to in 2016, using the £50,000 from the Coastal Revival Fund, the Harbour Street area can be regenerated, a New Ramsgate Town Promoter will start in the new year, with new ideas to promote the town and we look forward to future developments and investments happening within Ramsgate.
