News / Ramsgate wins Coastal Revival Grant
£50,000 from the Government’s Coastal Revival Fund has been awarded to Ramsgate.
The Town Council and the Ramsgate Society made a joint bid that linked the Historic Harbour, Clock House and Harbour Street. The money will prepare a regeneration initiative. This precisely matched the Fund’s aim of linking town centre and coastal renewal.
The Award also designates the Harbour as a site of industrial importance, one of less than a dozen in the country. Tourism and town centre restoration are dominant. Thanet was recently described as having no sites of industrial historical importance so this official recognition will boost the ongoing programme.
John Walker, Chairman of the Society says "This is a perfect example of partnership: The Council and the Society each had a good idea but only one scheme was going to be accepted in Thanet, and the joint bid will benefit the whole town, its residents and future visitors."
