News / In Memory of Godfrey Power
This article is in Memory of Godfrey Power, who sadly passed away this year.
Godfrey's Garlic is a giant garlic bred by Godfrey Power on his plot at Chilton Lane East Allotments in Ramsgate. It is a true garlic yet it grows to the size of Elephant garlic, which is actually not a garlic but more closely related to the Leek.
We'd like to thank Godfrey for his generosity in providing a large number of cloves for us to plant in the Kitchen Garden at Standen. We are growing it exclusively for the Cafe but will keep some back to plant for next years crop.
Garlic is a popular crop at Standen in the Barn Cafe and with the public, so we are also growing Albigensian Wight, Avignon Wight, Lautrec Wight, Picardy Wight, Solent Wight, and Elephant Garlic.
The Kitchen Garden Volunteers are looking forward to harvesting the garlic later in the year and we are all expecting Godfrey's Garlic to be a real winner!
