/ Over 250 Children Get Involved in Music Making
On 15 November at 6pm over 250 students from schools across Thanet will come together with professional singers, director and musical director from Garsington Opera for All to perform short works and scenes inspired by Handel’s sparkling masterpiece Semele.
Over the last two weeks, students from six secondary and primary schools have been working with the team from Garsington Opera for All. They have been exploring the many different ingredients that are involved in opera including vocal work, composition, movement, drama and design enabling them to devise and present their own ‘mini’ production that will culminate in the Semele Mash-Up on 15 November.
For many of the students this will be their first encounter with live opera singing and the workshops are an enjoyable and transformative experience for the participants.
Paul Grist, Garsington Opera for All explained:
"The workshops provide local children with an introduction to opera; teaching them how to tell a story through singing, acting and movement. The response from the children of Thanet has been fantastic and they have all worked incredibly hard and have found the process very rewarding.
These workshops and the Semele MashUp will be presented as part of Looping the Loop Festival on 15 November at 6pm at St Lawrence College, Taylor Theatre, College Road. Tickets: Free but booking essential from: www.loopingtheloopfestival.org.uk/whats-on.html
