Looping the Loop
Season 8 revealed!
In partnership with renowned theatre producers Battersea Arts Centre, Looping the Loop is set, once more, to fill Thanet with exciting pop-up performances and opportunities to get involved. Locally grown talent and internationally acclaimed visiting artists come together to entertain, inspire and engage through 5 star shows, sonic art, comedy, physical theatre, magical outdoor events, workshops and free activities across Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs. Join us for Looping the Loop Season 8, our biggest, brightest & best programme yet!

Whether it’s 3D multi sensory dreamscapes played out for the under 4s, intimate experiences of brain surgery delivered via headphones or ‘a smack in the face for all of us’ from Theatre Ad Infinitum in the form of a blistering tale of love, family and violent revenge...this spring’s festival is certainly not humdrum!

Other Festival activities across Thanet include; the popular FAMILY EXPLORER DAY with theatre director Ellie Jones’ extraordinary treasure hunt in and around Theatre Royal Margate, workshops with visiting theatre makers in drama, writing and digital design, an invitation to get involved with Mischievous Theatre’s UTTER THANET that delves into local people’s stories.

First in is pre-festival warm up, A PLAY IN A DAY on March 11, part of POW! Thanet’s celebration of International Women’s Day. This is a £15 crash course in the art of theatre-making where local industry professionals Will Wollen, Helen Stewart and Clive Holland lead you through the process of writing, directing, theatre design and acting leading to the creation and same-day performance of a brand new work made by you for a public audience.

Looping the Loop Season 8 proper kicks off at the uber hip Ramsgate Music Hall (NME’s ‘best UK small music venue’) with a lively FESTIVAL LAUNCH EVENT where Margate based .dash theatre will lend their flair for ‘experimental theatre with a rock & roll style’ to a mash up of East Kent’s most cutting edge performers, poets, artists and musicians. Expect a night of camaraderie, fun, canapes and cocktails. Meanwhile, if milk and rusks are more your scene, the under 4s are very well catered for: Estelle Rosenfeld’s immersive multi sensory INSIDE (a work in progress) takes you and child back to the womb and Tom Penn’s NEVERLAND with 360 video projections, original music and performance leads you both on a journey through the sky and beneath the ocean.

REASSEMBLED SLIGHTLY ASKEW, ENTER THE DRAGONS and BUCKET LIST offer up different kinds of journeys to those aged 14 and over. In REASSEMBLED SLIGHTLY ASKEW artist Shannon Yee puts you not just in her shoes but in her hospital bed using binaural digital technology to convey a clever and moving story of her rocky road to recovery from a rare brain infection. With places limited to the number of beds (six), early booking is recommended for this show offering ‘humanity, insight, and a completely different theatrical experience’. Classic clown duo A&E Comedy return to Looping the Loop for one night only with a new frank, funny and fearless show ENTER THE DRAGONS, looking at the subject of female ageing. Expect stupid characters, ridiculous costumes, puppetry, songs, buffoonery and many, many wigs. Season 8 ends with a bang as BUCKET LIST , the ‘blisteringly magnificent play’ written and directed by Nir Paldi lands in Thanet for the final dates of its highly acclaimed UK tour. A Mexican woman’s fight for justice after the political murder of her mother forms the backdrop for a story about love, loss and murderous revenge that will have you on the edge of your seat.

’It is an epic magical story that makes you care deeply’ ????? British Theatre Guide
